President Pakistan Muslim League Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Tuesday said current emergency's period will prove the shortest ever in the history of the country as it will be lifted within a weeks. Talking to ARY Channel, he said his advice to impose emergency was ignored months ago, had it clamped hundred of deaths could have been avoided.
He said emergency has been imposed to avoid martial law as the functioning of government was hampered and nearing collapsed due to undue interference of some members of judiciary.
Elections would be held on schedule, however, there could be some delay on technical grounds. Everyone would be allowed to take part in the elections and winning party would be invited to form the government without any delay, he assured. Responding to a question, he said judiciary in the country is free and it can work independently however, personal vendetta must be avoided.
