300 uplift schemes under way: Kamal

Nazim Karachi Syed Mustafa Kamal has said that Haq Parast leadership completed hundreds of projects in a short period and at present some 300 schemes were under implementation at a cost of billions of rupees and work on many of them had completed by 80 to 90 percent. He stated this while addressing a meeting here on Tuesday evening. The meeting was held to review the works of ongoing projects.
"Our effort is to implement those projects first which may prove of immediate advantage to citizens. For this reason water and sewerage were kept on priority," he said adding that for the first time in the history of Karachi, Rs 21 billion are being spent on water and sewerage projects.
He informed that completion of under-construction projects for supply of water to Baldia Town, Korangi Town and Clifton would start completing during the next few months.
He said areas where water and sewerage problems have been solved, construction of roads has been started at a fast speed. In Gulistan-e-Jauhar roads are being constructed on a fast track after solving the water and sewerage problems and a camp established there for providing water connections.
Nazim Karachi told the meeting that the present city government gave the concept of signal-free corridors as the objective remained unfulfilled with construction of a bridge at one roundabout.
If problem stood solved at one roundabout, the traffic will get stick up at the other roundabout, he added. It was for this reason Sharea Faisal to SITE.
Signal-free corridor was completed in a very short time and after this successful experiment, work has been taken on the second signal-free corridor from Surjani Town to Sharea Faisal, Mustafa Kamal said. He pointed out that medicines are available in abundance in 273 CDGK dispensaries to provide medical facilities to people at the mohallah level. He said basic changes have been brought in procurement of medicines to ensure to have better quality drugs.
