An Ikebana competition and exhibition was organised on Saturday at the Japan Cultural Centre of the Consulate General of Japan Karachi. The event was held under the joint auspices of the Pakistan-Japan Cultural Association (PCJA), Sindh, and the Japan Cultural Centre.
It was inaugurated by the Consul General of Japan in Karachi, Shoichi Nakono, and Ms Fatima Surriya Bajia, who is also the president of PJCA Sindh. Speaking on the occasion, the Consul General said that the very purpose of organising such exhibitions is to promote Ikebana style of flower arrangements in Karachi.
He said that the exhibitions also provide the ladies who learn Ikebana the opportunity to display their skills and expertise in this very art. Shoichi Nakano pointed out that the standard of Ikebana has also improved in Karachi over the years.
He also lauded the efforts of those ladies who had participated in the exhibition. The Consul General hoped that the PCJA Sindh and the Japan Cultural Centre will continue to hold such programmes in future also. Fatima Surriya Bajia also expressed her views and praised the efforts of those who were participating in such events. A total of 38 Ikebana flower arrangements were put on display on the occasion.
