Four damaged bridges on Jhelum Road have been repaired and inaugurated at a public ceremony held on Saturday at Subri bridge, near Muzzarafabad, Azad Kashmir. These Kashmir bridges were badly damaged during the devastating earthquake of October 2005. Four of them have now been restored.
The fifth bridge is still under repair and will be restored by next March. JICA, the Japanese development aid donor offered to reconstruct five bridges destroyed by the earthquake on Kohala-Muzzafarabad-Chakothi road on January 21, 2006, undertaking reconstruction within 21 months.
The AJK Prime Minister Sardar Attique Khan, Pakistan Communications Minister Shamim Siddiqui, Chairman National Housing Authority Major General Imtiaz Ahmad were also present at the opening ceremony.
