PDP to participate in MMA's APC

12 Nov, 2007

Pakistan Democratic Party (PDP) Chief Nawabzada Mansoor Ahmed Khan assured Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) President Qazi Hussain Ahmad of a PDP delegation's participation in an MMA-proposed All Parties Conference (APC) scheduled for November 14 in Islamabad.
In a phone call to Qazi Hussain, Nawabzada said that the APC should chalk out a plan for the restoration of sacked chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and other judges who refused to take oath under the Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO), lifting of the state of an emergency, and the restoration of the constitution.
MMA sources said here on Sunday that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) also nodded to attend the APC. Mian Nawaz Sharif has sent a message of assent to Qazi Hussain Ahmed and assured him that a delegation of PML-N would take part in the proposed APC. However Mian Nawaz Sharif said that the upcoming elections would be useless if the PCO was not revoked. Sources said that allies of APDM agreed to launch a joint movement against the government, and to cooperate with each other in the polls.
Sources said the government could not be allowed to curb fundamental rights and media freedom. They said that all detained judges and political activists should be released immediately. They demanded the Supreme Court take suo motu notice of police torture on lawyers and political activists.
