Chairman of Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf Imran Khan has welcomed the demand of Benazir Bhutto regarding reinstatement of Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry and other judges of the Supreme Court and high courts.
Talking to a private TV channel he said that PML-N, Tehrik-i-Insaf, ANP, PONM and JI have decided to launch a movement for restoration of the judges on one platform.
He also criticised government for imposing curbs on media, adding that the state of emergency was imposed only to remove the judges and restrict the private channels. He said General Musharraf wants to bring dummy democracy.
Imran Khan said the deposed judges are the real heroes of Pakistan. He said he is going to set up a fund 'Save the judiciary fund' and would collect fund for them from across the world. The future of the country depends on these judges, he added.
To a question the PTI Chairman said there should be an independent Election Commissioner who would conduct the election. An independent Election Commission, he said, can be expected only if the judiciary is independent.
To another question regarding development work in his constituency, Imran Khan said that despite an opposition MNA he has completed several development projects in his area. He said the biggest of the projects is NUML College, a technical college affiliated with Bradford University which would be opened next month.
He said he would also contest from the constituencies of Lahore, adding that there would a seat adjustment with Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz).
