Muhattida Quami Movement on Sunday hailed President General Pervez Musharraf's commitment to hold general election in the first week of January. Leader of MQM Dr Imran Farooq told TV channels that elections would help in bringing prosperity in the country.
However, country's atmosphere is very critical and emergency should be lifted before the elections, he added. He objected giving comparatively short time of 45 days for election campaign saying: "Confusion prevails that how the election process would be completed in such a short period of time. Elections should be held in such an atmosphere that no one can point finger on the process."
He urged political parties to play their part and help devising a joint strategy for ensuring transparent elections. To a question about media, he said the issue should be resolved through dialogue.
