Special Court, Anti-terrorism, No 2 Multan, headed by Amir Muhammad Khan on Saturday passed release orders of as many as Twelve lawyers who were arrested on November 7 from District Bar premises and outside. When the community had announced to hold protest against the state of emergency and Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO) in the country.
Muhammad Akram Bhatti President of District Bar, and two other lawyers Adil Mushtaq and Khalid Masud could not be released because Home department issued their detention order for 30 days under MPO-3 and shifted them to Jhelum prison.
Nine lawyers, named, Mian Khalid Naeem Nazir Ahmed, Safdar Hussain, Shahzeb Khan Afshar, Muhammad Rauf, Nadeem Abbas Shah, Aurtangzeb, Muhammad Ramazan, Muhammad Safdar released on bail against the surety bonds of Rs 20,000 each. The police and other law enforcement agencies on Wednesday had arrested the protesting lawyers from inside and outside the court premises.
The said accused persons are those booked by the Chehalyak & Cantonment Police Station under section 7 ATA, 16MPO and Sections 354, 324, 148, 149, 324, and 186 of the PPC. Many of the said lawyers had been shifted to the outstation jails after their initial lodging at Police station lockups. They include Sheikh Faheem Ahmed, High Court Bar General Secretary Rana Naveed Akhtar, DBA General Secretary Mumtaz Noor Tangra, Salim Ansari Presidential candidate for Multan Bar Association Sheikh Faheem Ahmed was not released because they were detained for 90 days in Mianwali prison.
