THE RUPEE: dollar higher

Declining trend was seen in the open market on Tuesday as the rupee shed five paisa against dollar for buying and selling at 61.00 and 61.10 in process of trading, dealers said. The rupee, however gained sharply in relation to euro for buying and selling at Rs 88.50 and Rs 88.60, dealers said.
During the second session, dollar rebounded from an 18-month low against yen in Asian trade on Tuesday as players squared their positions after the recent heavy sell-off, dealers said. Traders were keeping a close watch on global stock markets and oil prices, while signs that the Japanese government is concerned about the speed of yen's recent appreciation helped dollar to stabilise, they said.

The dollar resumed trading at Monday's closing level of Rs 60.95 and Rs 61.05 on buying and selling sides though there was hardly any fluctuation in the dollar's worth in the day's trading and finally closed at the same level. The pound sterling was bought and sold at Rs 125.70 and Rs 126.10 against overnight closing of Rs 126.50 and Rs 126.90.
The dollar opened at Rs 60.85 (buying) and Rs 61 00 (selling) against the last rate. It did not observe any change in the second session and closed at Rs 60.85 (buying) and Rs 61 00 (selling). Pound Sterling opened at Rs 127.20 (buying) and Rs 127.40 (selling) against the last rate. It did not observe any change in the last trading hours and closed at Rs 127.20 (buying) and Rs 127.40 (selling).
