Hoarders and profiteers

14 Nov, 2007

It is heartening to note that a presidential ordinance is on the anvil targeting the boarders and profiteers to rid the people at large regarding soaring prices of essential articles.
An indication to this effect has been given by no less a person than President General Pervez Musharraf while talking to newsmen after chairing the meeting of the National Security Council in Islamabad the other day.
General Pervez Musharraf is reported to have told the media people that he is fully seized of the common people's growing concern about price hike of daily use items adding that plans are in hand to promulgate an ordinance, now that the state of emergency prevails, to address the vicious circle of ever-surging prices of essential articles and go after the boarders and profiteers responsible for forcing the people to suffer. This is indeed a welcome and appreciable thinking on the part of General Pervez Musharraf.
In all fairness, like militants, extremists and terrorists the boarders and profiteers deserve no mercy at all and should be dealt with an iron hand. People at large surely are more concerned with essential articles' soaring prices and how to feed their families under the prevailing circumstances, rather than politicking or for that matter proclamation of the state of emergency and issuance of the Provisional Constitution Order.
If General Pervez Musharraf can achieve the target of hitting out at the hoarders and profiteers as hard as possible, besides going after the extremists, militants and terrorists, then he would surely be rescuing the people of their great problem and he would be winning their hearts, indeed.
