Partly Facetious: a matter of faith in the economy

17 Nov, 2007

"The Chosen One is the second richest member of the Cabinet in this country."
"Only according to the data released by the cabinet members themselves."
"That's true but what is the significance of that?" "The professional politicians..."
"I wasn't aware of such a term."
"Well, we have professional beggars and we have professional politicians who are willing to bend with the wind..."
"I get it. So the Chosen One is the second richest amongst this select group."
"But there is one downside."
"Why would his being rich have a downside?"
"Well, he has such faith in the Pakistan economy, which has taken off according to him, that he has 93% of his assets outside the country."
"Ah, that is telling indeed."
"Right and I am not saying people like BB and her close Jiyalas or Nawaz Sharif and his close Nawalas do not have considerable assets outside the country, but I am just saying that they probably have a majority of their assets in the country."
"So the Chosen One has no faith in the economic system of this country? With his own money out how could he justify his numerous trips abroad with the specific target to attract foreign investment?"
"Requires guts, doesn't it? One has to give full marks to Musharraf for choosing a Prime Minister who has that degree of guts."
"Don't be facetious. By the way where does Soomro stand in this?"
"Where does Soomro come in?"
"Soomro is the new Prime Minister, the Caretaker if you will."
"And I presume President Musharraf consulted with all relevant people about his appointment and..."
"Nope no need all decisions Musharraf takes are in the supreme national interest."
