Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said that his government has taken revolutionary steps for rehabilitation of poor people of the society during the last five years due to which the living standard of people has improved.
While addressing the ceremony of distribution of regularisation letters to work charge employees of LDA, Wasa and Tepa here on Sunday, he said: "our government has given incentives package to teachers and clerks which have provided relief to them." He, on this occasion, announced to regularise 1,600 work charge employees of Lahore Development Authority (LDA), Wasa and Tepa. He also announced 20 percent quota in government housing colonies for LDA employees.
Provincial Ministers Syed Raza Ali Gillani and Mian Aslam Iqbal besides President Pakistan Muslim League (PML) Lahore Mian Muhammad Munir, Director General LDA Arif Khan and MD Wasa Pervaiz Iftikhar were also present on this occasion.
Pervaiz Elahi said that 215 employees of LDA, 1,318 of Wasa and 66 of Tepa will get benefit from this revolutionary step of PML government. In addition, 104 such employees have also been made permanent who did not fall under this category due to overage. He said that the employment quota for children of such employees from Grade-1 to 5 who have retired or died has increased to 20 percent and 235 children of such employees of LDA who died from 1993 to till date had been given employments. He also announced to give plots in any government residential scheme of Lahore to each employee of LDA who completed 10 years service. He said that those employees who have been made regular will also get conveyance allowance, group insurance and all other facilities. He said that due to this step of the government economic conditions of the families of these employees will improve. Later talking to journalists the chief minister said that no political party could boycott the elections in the light of the experiences of 1985. He said it was a good omen that present assemblies had completed their constitutional tenure for the first time in the history of the country and "we are heading towards elections."
He said that opposition should make preparations for elections instead of objecting on caretaker government. "Our government has taken special steps for betterment of all segments of society, including government employees." He said that due to his government's reforms programme performance of government institutions had improved and people got relief. He said that basic health units had been upgraded for providing standardised facilities of health to the people. He said that in order to cope with any emergency or accident, Rescue, Punjab emergency ambulance service "Rescue 1122" had proved very useful. The scope of this service had also been extended to other big cities of the province, he added.

Meanwhile addressing the inaugural ceremony of Seerat Academy and Quran Complex project at Upper Mall, Scoth Corner, the Punjab Chief Minister said that the construction of Seerat Academy and Quran Complex in Lahore was a historical achievement of the provincial government.
He said that Seerat Academy will become a source of spreading Islamic teachings according to real sense of Islam. He said that most modern research and teaching facilities of international standard would be available due to establishment of Seerat Academy and Quran Complex. He said that this building will prove a unique building with regard to architectural art.
He said that the Seerat Academy and Quran Complex had been set up at a land of 47 kanal. He said that an auditorium had been constructed with a seating capacity of 700 people and Conference Hall with seating capacity of 200 people in Seerat Academy.
He said that the students would have facility of getting degree of MA and Ph.D in Seerat Studies and new generation would get education according to real sense of Islam. He said that Quran Museum had been set up in Quran Complex to save the primitive and unique manuscripts of the Holy Book. He said that religious scholars of other countries would carry out research on various aspects of Islam and Seerat-un-Nabi (PBUH) which will benefit to the students.
Chairman Punjab Board Qari Hafeez Jalandhari while addressing the function said that setting up of Quran Complex and Seerat Academy was a marvellous step of Punjab Chief Minister which would prove an important source of publication and promotion of Islamic teachings. Chairman Punjab Quran Board Qari Hafeez Jalandhari also addressed on the occasion.
Earlier, the Punjab chief minister inaugurated Lahore-Kasur-Ganda Singhwala Road near Chungi Amer Sidhu, which has completed at a cost of Rs 3.75 billion. Speaking on this occasion, he said that best travelling facilities had become available to the people of Lahore-Kasur and other cities and villages after completion of Lahore-Kasur road project, which will leave positive impact on the economy.
