Over 5.89 million bales reach ginneries

Over 5.89 million cotton bales have reached ginneries throughout the country till November 15, 2007, according to a fortnightly report of Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) issued here on Sunday.
The arrival of Phutti in terms of bales (5,894,920 bales) was recorded low this year as compared to the arrival figure of (6,807,885 bales) during the corresponding period of the last year.
Arrival of Phutti recorded in Punjab (4,145,128 bales) by November 15, 2007, also remained low as compared to arrival (5,327,440 bales) recorded last year. However, Sindh province registered an increase with arrival of Phutti recorded at 1,749,792 bales in comparison to 1,480,445 bales recorded last year. Out of total arrival of Phutti, some 5,014,169 bales have been pressed into bales.
Some 62,200 bales have been purchased by exporters while another 4,310,900 bales by textile mill owners till November 15 this year, the PCGA report said. Thus, total number of cotton bales sold were recorded at 4,373,100 bales leaving 641,069 bales as unsold stock.
