Taking stern action against growing trend of performing stunts on the Capital's roads by motorcyclists, Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) fined 1,643 one-wheelers and impounded 346 motorcycles under section 115 of the Motor Vehicle Ordinance during the last 45 days.
Following the directions of SSP (Traffic) Zubair Hashmi, special teams comprising DSPs, Inspectors, sergeants and other policemen are keeping strict checking on the roads of Islamabad to curb traffic rules violations. During this period, 39 motorcyclists were also arrested under section 99-A, 99/113 MVO while 54 heavy sound silencer and racing cars were also fined.
The SSP (Traffic) Zubair Hashmi expressed his commitment to eliminate this practice through strict monitoring and action as authorised by the law. The vehicles of those found guilty of racing would be impounded and the drivers would also be booked, he maintained.
Regarding education campaign, the sources said that education teams of ITP also delivered lectures among 4,545 students during their visits to schools and colleges. In all, 465 PSV drivers attended the refresher courses arranged by the traffic police.
