Braving sporadic spells of rain, scores of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) activists demonstrated on Tuesday near the UN Headquarters in New York to voice their support for President Pervez Musharraf's policies, including his declaration of state of emergency in Pakistan.
The demonstrators carried banners and placards bearing photographs of General Musharraf, PML Chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and former Chief Minister PML Punjab President Chaudhry Pervaiz. They raised vociferous slogans of Pakistan Zindabad, President Musharraf Zindabad, Chaudhry Shujaat Zindabad and Parvez Elahi Zindabad.
In a telephonic address to the gathering, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain said that "Pakistan first" should constitute the guiding principle of "our people and all efforts should be dedicated to further strengthen the country."
Praising the organisers, especially PML-USA president Mian Zakir Naseem and PML-USA Secretary General Malik Sikandar Aziz for organising the demonstration, Chaudhry Shujaat urged them to try and mobilise the Pakistanis under one banner as in unity depends the country's strength. PML Christian League-USA President Anjum Bhatti also participated in the demonstration along with his supporters.
