Pakistan Open and Spinners Association's Chairman Ijaz Ahmad has accused the government of constantly ignoring his association's contribution and services to develop the national economy with the sector offering 20 percent.
He has appealed to the interim government to ban the export of waste cotton because it was reprocessed to produce thread, which could help reduce the production cost. He was expressing his views during a meeting of his members here on Wednesday at a local hotel.
He urged the government to take pragmatic measure to solve the spinners' problems. He said the spinning sector was playing a key role in strengthening the economy by reprocessing the waste cotton and selling it in the value addition as well as after making the fine thread it was being used in the various products of the weaving and spinners sectors.
Blaming the government he said, "The wrong policies of the government is the main cause of the spinners' crises." He pointed out that the production of thread was insufficient to meet the country's requirement due to the export of waste cotton.
Demanding the government he said that the government must ban on waste cotton export. He said former textile minister Mustaq Cheema promised to give a special relief package to the textile sector but the cabinet never implemented it so far.
