Rs six billion sought for reconstruction of collapsed berths: CDWP to take up projects of over Rs 108 billion on November 26

The ports and shipping division has sought Rs 6 billion for reconstruction of collapsed berths at the Karachi Port. Sources told Business Recorder on Friday that the ports and shipping division has submitted its initial plan to the Planning and Development Division in pre-CDWP meeting.
The ports and shipping division is seeking concept clearance, which is essential for foreign funding of the project estimated at Rs 2.4 billion. The concept clearance first (CC-I) of the scheme and 40 other development projects would be taken up by the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) in its meeting on November 26, the sources added. The CDWP would take up the projects in diversified sectors. The total cost of the projects has been estimated at well over Rs 108 billion, said the sources.
Apart from the CC-I, the Central Development Working Party (CDWP), will also consider the Interconnection of 16 IPPs with national grid (Phase I) of the water and power division. The project would cost Rs 2.4 billion that also include a foreign loan of Rs 580 million.
Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) uranium mining project (Taunsa-2) Dera Ghazi Khan, costing Rs 2.3 billion is also on the agenda of the meeting. The CDWP will also take up the ministry of education scheme for awarding 200 scholarships to the students of occupied Kashmir, costing Rs 150 million.
The interior division's plan of appointing a consultant for the construction of additional family suites along with gymnasium, mosque, servant rooms and garages for parliamentarians near the Parliament Lodges will also be reviewed. The consultant's appointment, which will be considered by the CDWP, will cost over Rs 111 million. Besides this, the Pakistan Day Parade Ground project at a cost Rs 458 million will also be considered.
The Higher Education Commission is planning to construct four universities of engineering and technology in collaboration with China and three European countries. The UET to be constructed with Chinese and Austrian assistance would cost Rs 4.9 billion each. The German-assisted university would cost Rs 5.1 billion. The UET to be built in collaboration with Italy would cost Rs 4.7 billion. China is expected to provide Rs 1.4 billion, Germany and Austria Rs 1.6 billion each and Italy would provide Rs 1.3 billion for their respective UETs.
