Minister for Industries, Production and Special Initiatives, Salmaan Taseer has emphasised the need for accelerating the process of development in engineering sector as it contributes towards economic progress of the country.
He expressed these views during his visit to Engineering Development Board (EDB) here. The minister described engineering section as most important for the future of Pakistan and directed that board should expand its activities so that major sub-sectors of engineering could be developed.
During his interaction with General Managers of the board Taseer informed them that the Ministry of Industries, Production and Special Initiatives was preparing a comprehensive industrial policy for rapid industrialisation of the country and invited EDB to provide necessary inputs for it.
Noting the importance of the steel in development of engineering sector, he said that country needs more steel mills to cater to the raw material needs of the industry.
On the occasion, CEO, EDB Almas Haider briefed the minister about the history of the Board and Engineering Vision while Zahid J. Yaqoob, General Manager (Policy) gave presentation on EDB's working, achievements and future plans. The CEO highlighted various issues of engineering sector and informed him that the board was ready to present five-year vision of each sub-sectors of engineering after successfully introducing the same in auto sector.
