Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) has reiterated its resolve to continue struggle till lifting of emergency, curbs on media and restoration of constitution and judiciary.
Addressing a protest demonstration outside Madrassa Taleemul Quran, Raja Bazar on Friday, MMA leaders demanded immediate release of the political prisoners and abandoning use of state force against peaceful protest demonstrations of journalist and civil society organisations.
The protest demonstration organised on the call of All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) against emergency and the extra-constitutional measures. MMA leaders Dr Kamal, Shamsur Rehman Swati, Arif Sherazi and others led the rally. Police barred the demonstrators from marching towards Fawara Chowk.
MMA leaders expressed dismay over imposition of emergency and taking other extra-constitutional measures by the government, saying that these moves have isolated Pakistan in the comity of nations. If this was not stopped, Pakistan would remain alone, they said. They said that Musharraf has put integrity and solidarity at stake to save his illegitimate rule.
Now people have become aware of their rights and they wouldn't allow dictators to rule in future, Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal leaders said, adding Musharraf proclaimed emergency in the country to save himself from treason charges.
They said that after withdrawal of emergency, judiciary would automatically be restored, which would open all cases against the present regime. Condemning the restrictions on media, they said that government has exposed itself before the people and international community. They demanded immediate withdrawal of PEMRA ordinance and all restrictions imposed on media.
