The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) has been restrained by Sindh High Court from disconnecting water supply to Karachi Export Processing Zone (KEPZ). Justice Nadeem Azhar Siddiqui on Friday directed KWSB to take reading of the meter installed at KEPZ premises and submit the bills in the court on next date.
The KEPZ had prayed that the KWSB, instead of charging water as per the installed meter, was claiming water charges on the basis of 0.9 million gallons per day. KEPZ also submitted that it was ready and willing to pay water charges for consumption as per meter.
The end user of the water supply to KEPZ are export-oriented industries located in the zone. KEPZ is exempted from taxes by the government and manages other utilities like the zone. It does not use KWSB for this utility.
