Southern Punjab schools: Ministry fails to provide course books

24 Nov, 2007

The first quarter of the academic year of different schools in southern Punjab has completed and students are going to take their first term examinations but so far the ministry has failed to provide the course books.
The students of different government schools complained that they had not received books of different subjects, including Moral Education, Physical Education, Biology and Computer and they are relying on notes. The books of other major subjects including Chemistry, Physics and Maths were also not provided in sufficient number and students in large number are still waiting to get the books.
It is also pertinent to mention that due to scarcity of Arabic language teachers in the country, the Ministry of Education had made the compulsory Arabic subject of class 6th, 7th and 8th as optional and introduced Moral Education and Physical Education. But the students still have not got the Arabic book as well as the newly introduced books.
Commenting on the situation, a government schoolteacher said that the students have suffered a lot due to the lack of coordination and ill-planning by the ministry. Another teacher from government school said, "we have repeatedly informed the directorate but relaxed attitude was witnessed on their part and the students are still waiting for the books".
