US MIDDAY: wheat soars

24 Nov, 2007

Nearby wheat futures on the Chicago Board of Trade rose the daily limit of 30 cents per bushel at midsession on Friday, buoyed by technical buying and a lack of sellers in a holiday-shortened session, traders said.
Spillover strength from the soya, gold and energy markets helped lift wheat, along with a higher-than-expected weekly export sales figure. As of 11:42 am CST (1742 GMT), CBOT December wheat was up the 30-cent limit at $8.33-1/2 per bushel. Minneapolis Grain Exchange December spring wheat was up 29 cents at $9.17 after reaching $9.18, and Kansas City Board of Trade December wheat was up 28-1/4 at $8.58-1/2 after reaching $8.60.
