Jamaat-i-Islami Pakistan wile declaring that forthcoming general elections if held without restoring pre November 3 position would be merely a farce and drama, has threatened to boycott them.
A resolution adopted by the central Majlis-e-Shoora (consultative body) of JI in a meeting held on Tuesday night with JI Amir Qazi Hussain in the chair, said that the elections would be mere a farce, if emergency was not lifted, PCO not withdrawn, judiciary not restored to November 2 position, restrictions on media not lifted, an independent and impartial election commission not constituted, besides interim set-up of national consensus was not formed.
The resolution declared that if the aforesaid conditions were not met then JI along with the APDM would boycott the polls. It noted that free, fair and impartial election is the only solution to the present crisis confronted by the country.
Through another resolution, the JI Shoora appealed to all political and religious parties, civil society organisations and countrymen to realise the gravity of situation and provide such leadership through free and fair polls, which could make the country true Islamic, democratic and welfare state.
Yet another resolution, the JI termed army action against countrymen as a threat to country's integrity and appealed the nation to register their protest on November 30 against this policy.
