The prices of daily use commodities were found fluctuating on Thursday as various shopkeepers and street vendors sold out their goods on different prices, mostly high, neglecting the purchasing power of the buyers in Multan and its neighbouring districts.
The retail prices of good quality potato were fixed from Rs 16 to Rs 17 per kilogram by the Market Committee Multan (MCM) while they were selling between Rs 18 and Rs 21 in different retail markets.
Similarly, onions were sold from Rs 18 to Rs 24 per kilogram. The prices of tomato were fixed at Rs 25 to 30 per kilogram, garlic (desi) Rs 35 to 45 per kilogram; garlic (China) Rs 36 to Rs 40 per kilogram and ginger Rs 53 to Rs 57 per kilogram. The retail price of spinach was hovering between Rs 8 to Rs 11 per kilogram while the market committee fixed the commodity at Rs 4 to Rs 7.
The price of ladyfinger was also increased and sold from Rs 25 to Rs 32 per kilogram. The lemon was sold from Rs 24 to Rs 30 per kilogram. Radish was sold from Rs 07 to Rs 11 per kilogram, cluster beans were sold between Rs 40 to Rs 53 per kilogram, water chestnuts were sold from Rs 18 to Rs 25 per kilogram and pumpkin was sold from Rs 12 to Rs 18 per kilogram. In fruit, the prices of different quality of banana were set between Rs 20 and Rs 43 but vendors were selling between Rs 25 to Rs 50 per dozen in different retail markets.
Pomegranate was selling between Rs 40 to Rs 120 per kilogram. Grapefruit sold at Rs 06 to Rs 11 per piece. The ex-factory 100-kilogram sugar sack was fixed at Rs 2,600. The wholesale rate of 100-kilogram sugar bag was Rs 2,620 to Rs 2,630 in retail markets, the retailers charged Rs 27 to Rs 29 per kilogram. The price of A-category 16-kilogram ghee tin was fixed at Rs 1,600 B-category 16-kilogram at Rs 1,545 while C-category 16-kilogram was available at Rs 1,510.
The retailers charged Rs 84 to Rs 86 per kilogram for loose ghee. The polly bags of different brands were selling between Rs 100 to 110 per kilogram. The price of chicken meat was fixed at Rs 107 per kilogram but selling at Rs 110 to 115 and eggs at Rs 50 but selling at Rs 54 to 60 per dozen. Different varieties of gram pulse were sold at Rs 31 to Rs 38 per kilogram, while Masoor pulse was available at Rs 58 to Rs 65 per kilogram and lentil pulse at Rs 73 to Rs 75 per kilogram. The price of 20-kilogram flour bag ranged from Rs 295 to Rs 330.
