Fair elections

01 Dec, 2007

Our two prime political leaders and ex-prime ministers have started to sound like already expecting defeat in upcoming general elections. Both of them have pointed out that due to current election commission set-up free and fair elections could not be possible.
Notwithstanding the fact that they have been rejecting the results of elections which were won by either one of them since 1988, one could easily say that they know better than anyone else whether free and fair elections could be held at all. They are the best judges of how fair an election could be under a party or government.
Anyway, going by the statements of party leaders after filing their nomination papers one can easily judge that none of them expects a clear majority. They lack the skills and guts to beat Musharraf. It is a pity that we have failed to produce alternate leadership during the last 8-9 years.
