US MIDDAY: sugar softens

Raw sugar futures slipped in early dealings on Friday on sales by small speculators and brokers said bearish fundamentals may push prices to lower ground next week, brokers said. ICE Futures electronic March sugar was off 0.02 cent at 9.77 cents per lb at 9:11 am EST (1411 GMT), moving from 9.74 to 9.80 cents. The rest lost 0.02 to 0.04 cent.
Electronic volume in the March contract Friday was at 5,375 lots at 9:14 am, while open-outcry volume was 321 lots at 9:00 am. Open-outcry volume Thursday was at 4,038 lots and screen trade hit 56,765 lots.
