Afghan and NATO-led troops killed 40 suspected Taliban militants in separate clashes in the southern province of Kandahar, while a bomber was the only casualty in a suicide attack against foreign forces in the same province, Afghan police said Sunday.
Afghan forces backed by NATO-led troops killed 35 militants and arrested 10 in a three-day operation in the Shah Walikot district of Kandahar province, in which airstrikes were also used, Sayed Agha Saqib, provincial police chief, told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa. Saqib said that only one Afghan soldier was wounded. Meanwhile, five Taliban militants were killed in a separate clash in the province's Zherai district on Saturday, Saqib said.
Also in Kandahar, a bomber detonated his explosive-laden vehicle near a convoy of NATO-led troops in Shah Walikot district on Sunday morning, killing himself, but causing no damage or casualties among the foreign soldiers, Saqib said.
