Veteran Kashmiri politician and former prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan has asked All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) to desist from boycotting the general elections. He said parties should wholeheartedly take part in the elections.
Talking to APP, Qayyum said all the political parties should take part in next month polls unconditionally for the sake of thriving democratic rule and to ensure security, sovereignty and prosperity of the country.
"I don't think boycott of polls is a good step either for the nation or the country", he observed. Referring to the repeated declarations of boycott by Nawaz Sharif, Sardar Qayyum said Nawaz Sharif should refrain from doing so. Qayyum said Nawaz Sharif should participate, as the election environment is also suitable for him.
Sardar Qayyum called upon the politicians to stand united to root out the culture of enmity from politics. "The security and stability of this country lies only in this course of action," he added. Qayyum said boycott of polls by some political parties might prove to be useless if turn out remained satisfactory and people enthusiastically participated in the elections. Sardar Qayyum said President Pervez Musharraf successfully got the country out of the recent internal political crisis.
