07 Dec, 2007

President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry Nasir Khan has demanded of the government to control the illegal border trade with iron hands to control the price hike in Pakistan.
He added that price hike hit the poor very hard and Pakistanis are forced to buy the local things with high prices and smugglers are smuggling those products with illegal ways to the neighbouring countries like Afghanistan, Iran and China.
President ICCI Nasir Khan added that after bumper crops of wheat, sugar country is facing shortage of these things and now we are importing wheat with high prices. While talking to the business community Nasir Khan stressed that government should take more measures to control the illegal border trade to save the local industry and also to control the price hike.
He added that normally food items particularly wheat, sugar and edible oil are smuggled to Afghanistan, while a number of products of Afghan origin and merchandised items of foreign origin like China, Iran are smuggled into Pakistan via Quetta, Chaman etc.
