Multan DBA candidates intensify polls campaign

Candidates for the upcoming annual elections of District Bar Association (BA), Multan have intensified their campaign for election to be held on January 15, 2008.
As many as 21 candidates are contesting for the slots of LBA President, Secretary, Vice President, Joint Secretary and Finance Secretary for the year 2008-09. They are meeting lawyers individually at the bar premises, their offices and also contacting the voters at their homes in the night.
According to a survey conducted by this scribe, three candidates are in the run for the office of LBA President including Shaikh Faheem Ahmed, Khurshid Ahmed Khan and Najaf Ali Chavan.
Two of the presidential candidates, Shaikh Faheem Ahmed, Najaf Ali Chavan claim the support of professional group, and if the situation remains the same till balloting date, then it is possible that votes of professional group be divided, which would ultimately give benefit to other candidate Khurshid Ahmed Khan, former Deputy Registrar of BZU university contesting for the same office.
It is pertinent to mention here that the opposition parties supporting both the candidates. Shaikh Faheem Ahmed who is a member of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) but had closed relations with the PML-N and other political parties and media men.
However, Khurshid Ahmed Khan who claims to represent the young lawyers was of the view that professional group should give chance to some other candidates.
Presidential candidate Shaikh Faheem Ahmed is looking strong in the present election scenario, having support of both the seniors and juniors, is hopeful for his prospects.
