15 Dec, 2007

Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Director General Muhammad Aslam Ghumman has ordered arrest of SHO Kharian police station Raja Muhammad Younis and 15 police officials for arresting six people, including two police officials without any justification and keeping them in illegal detention.
DG ACE has also directed to initiate departmental enquiry against DSP Kharian Raja Zafar Iqbal and Sub-Inspector Muhammad Akram Gondal. Faisal Shahzad and Muhammad Saghir, two police officials of tehsil Kharian, in their application lodged with the ACE said that they with Khurram, Adnan, Nadeem Akhtar and Tabassum Ali were going to attend a pre-wedding feast of their relatives and stayed at a poultry farm of their common friend, Iqbal Ahmad, near the Gulyana Police Station.
Fifteen police officials under the supervision of SHO PS Kharian Raja Muhammad Younis attacked and tortured them badly without any reason when they were taking tea at a poultry farm.
The applicants alleged that they were kept in illegal detention at PS Kharian and tortured badly. Ex-Naib Nazim Tehsil Kharian Haji Zafar rescued them after paying Rs 79,000 as gratification but the amount and items taken into custody in the name of body search during illegal arrest have not been returned. On their complaint DG Muhammad Aslam Ghumman constituted a team of officers to investigate the case, which found the police officials guilty of misusing their authority.
