Polls boycott: MMA parties not bound to obey JI decision

18 Dec, 2007

Central leader of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), Allama Sajid Naqvi has said that MMA parties are not bound to obey Jamaat-e-Islami's decision to boycott upcoming general elections because it is the decision of JI's Majlis-e-Shura but not of MMA.
While talking to newsmen after expressing condolence with Mir Muhammad Hassan Rind over the demise of his father at his residence here on Monday, Naqvi said that anti-democracy elements should not be facilitated with poll boycott.
He said that MMA, which is an alliance of religious parties, would remain intact. The alliance was not established for only contesting polls, but its establishment was aimed at resolving other multifarious problems of people besides creating sectarian harmony, Naqvi added.
To a question about the construction of Kalabagh dam, he said the projects opposed by majority of people should not be built. Leader of Islami Tehrik Pakistan, Haji Shafi Muhammad Pitafi, Sikandar Abbas Gilani, Allama Altaf Hussaini, Muazzam Baloch and Nizamul Haidri were also present on the occasion.
