President Pervez Musharraf on Monday said that the state of preparedness, equipment and training of the Armed Forces was of the highest order.
Addressing the officers, junior commissioned officers (JCOs) and men on a farewell visit to the Self-Propelled (SP) Regiment of Artillery, the President said that defence of the country had been made impregnable. He said Pakistan Army was one of the best in the world, that had not only ensured security of the country but has also contributed substantially towards various national development programmes.
The Chief of the Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, was present during the visit. Pervez Musharraf was commissioned in the 16 SP Regiment, Artillery, as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1961. He saw action in the 1965 war as a young officer in Khem Karan, Lahore and Sialkot Sectors with 16 SP. The President said that he was proud to have been commissioned in one of the finest units of Artillery and played a vital role in the defence of the country, both during peace and war.
A farewell dinner was also hosted by garrison officers for the President. COAS, Corps Commander and all officers attended the event. On arrival in the unit, 16 SP, the President was received by Corps Commander Lieutenant General Raza Muhammad Khan, General Officer Commanding Major General Javed Iqbal and Lieutenant Colonel Aijaz Ali Khan, Commanding Officer 16 SP Regiment, Artillery.
