Polls reporting: media urged to play role without fear, favour

Experts on Tuesday urged the media to play its effective role in highlighting the issues, weakness of government and political parties before, during and post elections process without fear and favour.
The views came at a training workshop organised by the Intermedia in collaboration with Asian Foundation on the investigative reporting by the media during elections. Highlighting the role of elections in democratic societies, the facilitators explained different social, political and economic bars for contesting the elections.
Senior journalist Bashir A. Tahir said that media coverage of election issues in Pakistan was usually limited to reporting on the pre-election process particularly the tall claims and the pledges are made by the politicians. He explained different technicalities to understand the election process up to polling booths stage and urged to investigative and report entire process correctly.
Amir said journalists could also monitor election process in its true and perspective manner. Humera Sharife, media consultant said that journalists must educate masses by highlighting election issues as well as laws and regulations.-PR
