A suicide bomber killed 13 Iraqis and a US soldier and wounded 25 others, including 10 American troops, in an attack in the restive Iraqi restive province of Diyala on Thursday, officials said. The bombing took place in the town of Qanan, south of Diyala's regional capital Baquba, police Captain Ahmed Mahmud from Baquba said.
The US military said the attack took place when a dismounted patrol was waiting to enter a building where a city council meeting was to be held. "A suicide bomber approached and detonated the explosives" he was wearing, the military said in a statement to AFP. "There were one coalition forces soldier killed. Also wounded were 10 coalition forces," it said, but gave a lower death toll of five Iraqis killed.
