The chief of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Altaf Hussain telephoned President Pervez Musharraf and expressed condolence on the tragic demise of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. This was stated in a press release of MQM International Secretariat received here on Tuesday.
The MQM chief said the death of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto was a big loss to the country. He said that in the wake of tragic death of Ms Bhutto, there were disturbances, acts of arson and looting in the country especially in the province of Sindh in which business, shops, factories, vehicles and houses were either set ablaze or damaged.
This, Altaf Hussain added, left many of the people in a situation that they were unable to make both their ends meet. He appealed to the President that compensation be paid to those who suffered losses as a result.
He further appealed that compensation be also paid to those whose family members lost their lives in such acts and those who sustained injuries be provided treatment at the government's expenses. According to the press release the President assured Altaf Hussain that the situation would be reviewed and steps would be taken to make good the losses incurred.
