A small political grouping, opposing elections, after a brief suspension of mourning of Benazir Bhutto, has announced to resume its movement aimed at ousting President Pervez Musharraf.
A fresh schedule will, however, be unveiled later, leaders of All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) told media here on Tuesday, threatening to march with thousands of supporters towards Islamabad to overturn Musharraf's rule. Top leaders met in Islamabad to ponder upon about what their fresh line of action should be in the new scenario.
The decision was to stay away from polls and go ahead with an anti-Musharraf movement, APDM convenor Mehmood Achakzai told media after the meeting. APDM parties, he said, would not accept anything less than Musharraf's immediate resignation.
The formation of a national government with consensus of all politicians and establishment of a new and independent election commission were other demands, he added. He said that Musharraf must have stepped down the day Benazir was assassinated.
Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) chief urged military commanders and state agencies not to fight countrymen to help Musharraf stay in power. "On which grounds Musharraf is ruling? Credible investigation into Benazir's murder is not possible in his presence...he must be thrown out," Qazi said.
Achakzai blamed the parties of Benazir and Nawaz Sharif for betraying people by taking part in "fraud elections". "PPP and PML-N have not done well," he said. "Of what advantage the election would be when everything is subservient to the military?" he asked.
