Shujaat urges PPP leadership to quit blame-games

04 Jan, 2008

President Pakistan Muslim League (Q) Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain on Thursday urged the leadership of Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians to quit the blames' game to promote the culture of reconciliation in the country.
Talking to a private television channel the PML-Q President said that his party reserves the right to respond the allegation levelled against it by the PPPP leadership.
He said that if PPPP continues with its demonstrated attitude the PML (Q) may become a party in the investigation of Benazir Bhutto's assassination case when the Scotland Yards comes. Shujaat said the PML(Q) is capable of responding the PPPP's allegation in a befitting way.
"We condemned the assassination incident, we condoled with the family members of slain leader," he said adding but, unfortunately the PPPP leadership is responding negatively to these gestures. He said the PPPP has vested hopes on mustering the sympathy vote following the death of its central leader but PML(Q) will secure public support on the basis of its performance over the past five years.
Shujaat said that along with serving the masses the PML(Q) leadership has been engaged to promote the culture of tolerance and political harmony in the country.
To a question the PML(Q) President said that after the results of 2002 elections, his party wanted to form a government of national consensus but these efforts could not succeed. If elected to power in the next elections the PML (Q) will try to take all the parties on board.
He was of the opinion that PML(Q) will emerge victorious in the next election on the basis of its performance in government. He said his party expects to win 148 seats in Punjab, 35-40 and 35 percent respectively in Sindh and NWFP provinces (along with its coalition partners).
He said the result of Balochistan province will be surprising for all. To another question he said that Nawaz Sharif after his return to the country has failed to muster the support of masses. It is under these circumstances that he is seeking the support of PPPP and virtually his faction of PML has become a 'B' team of PPPP. Shujaat said that he has no personal enmity with Nawaz Sharif rather he thinks on these lines.
