Japan to support Al-Shifa Trust to combat blindness

The Government of Japan has expressed its interest to expand its co-operation with Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital to eradicate blindness in the country. The Japanese diplomat said during a visit to Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital, Rawalpindi.
Diplomats of 12 countries, including Japan, France, Belgium, Iran, China, Brunei and South Korea visited the hospital to witness the available facilities. President of Al-Shifa Trust, Lieutenant General Jahan Dad Khan (Retd) informed the guests that over dozen projects are in hand at Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital, which need urgent financial support.
The projects include construction of hospitals in Muzaffarabad and Quetta, expansion of Sukkur and Kohat activities, development of Al-Shifa research institute and development of Tele-Ophthalmology in Rawalpindi hospital. He thanked the governments of Japan and France for their previous support.
The Ambassador of Iran also suggested mutual co-operation for doctors' training. The diplomat from Belgium offered Al-Shifa to help in organising fund raising for Al-Shifa. The diplomats also visited different departments of the hospital and received briefing about activities of respective departments.
