Maintenance of peace, harmony in Muharram directed

Inspector General of Police Punjab Ahmad Nasim has directed all the RPOs, CPOs and DPOs to make comprehensive security arrangements for ensuring complete maintenance of law and order during Muharram-ul-Harram across the province.
According to sources, certain guidelines have been given to the field police officers in connection with preparation of security plans for maintaining sanctity of this holy month. In the order, it has been directed that effective security measures must be taken for the protection of Imam Bargahs, venue of the Majalis Aza and the clearance of routes of mourning processions.
A large number of police personnel equipped with bullet proof jackets, helmets, arms and other anti-riot gadgets be deployed in the shape of foot patrolling in an organised and co-ordinated manner. The personnel in plain clothes will be also detailed around these places.
It has been further directed that the personnel deployed for security purpose be advised to remain in a state of high alert, besides arranging round the clock mobile police patrolling. A strict legal action will be made against the speakers indulging in fanning sectarian hatred, elements involved in publication/distribution of objectionable literature and the persons carrying arms openly.
It has also been directed that special attention should be given to the protection of women Majalis Aza and for this purpose deployment of women police as well as co-operation of administration of these Majalis be arranged. The security arrangements may be also made for the protection of car/motor cycle parking stands. Moreover, special squads of traffic police be constituted for ensuring regular flow of traffic during these days.
The field police officers have also been directed to carry out physical checking of security arrangements on the spot and presence of security staff on these places. They should also give necessary briefing to the security personnel in the light of the prevailing situation, in order to maintain the sanctity of Muharram-ul-Harram.
