People's representatives should be empowered to resolve problems

Lahore District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood has stressed the need for setting up municipal police and courts to check and control violation of local laws, like food adulteration, air pollution. He was talking to a delegation of officer under-training of District Management Group here on Saturday.
The delegation was briefed about the working of the Lahore district government and its progress. The Nazim told them that after introduction of local government system, the people's representatives were empowered to resolve common issues.
"However, to make crisis management more effective in the city, the district government should be autonomous," he added. He was of the view to include education in political agenda in order to increase literacy rate in the country. He said his government has taken revolutionary measures to improve the standard of education in the city. "We are striving to develop the city with he help of public-private partnership," he added.
