The Sindh Government should formulate a comprehensive strategy in three months' time that would help eliminate the sanctions imposed by the EU on the Fisheries Department regarding seafood. This was stressed by the Chairman Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), Tariq Ikram, in a meeting with the director of Marine Fisheries Department, Shaukat Hussain.
The managing director of Karachi Harbour Authority (KHA) and manager of Fishermen Co-operative Housing Society, Muhammad Ghazanfer Boota, were also present in the meeting. Tariq Ikram also called for improving the quality of motor boats according to the European standard adding that 50 percent of the maintenance charges of the motor boats would be provided by the provincial government, while the rest of the charges would be paid by the motor boat owners.
He further stated that the national Bank of Pakistan (NBP) would also provide interest free loan to the owners of motor boats to help them stand on their own feet. The TDAP chief pointed out that initially five motor boats would be transformed into `model boats' by their renovation while the Karachi Shipyard would carry out this work.
