Appeal for calm

06 Jan, 2008

President Pervez Musharraf has quite rightly appealed to the people at large to maintain peace and calm and not to create any law and order problem to show their anger and protest over the tragic demise of PPP Life Chairperson Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.
All political and religious parties, both the boycotters and participants of the election process, should exert their influence and pressure on the people to remain calm and not to create any law and order situation which may force the law enforcement agencies besides the Army and Rangers personnel, deployed at some places,to take any extreme action to bring the situation under control. Such a situation may not be all that liked by the angry and protesting mourners who need to be told to follow the laws of the land.
The President, in all fairness, had declared three days national mourning as a tribute to the national leader of international stature. This goodwill gesture on his part should not be wasted by continuing burning and damaging public and private property. Please heed to the timely appeal and maintain peace, calm and law and order even in this tense situation.
