PPP assures cooperation in Benazir's murder probe

07 Jan, 2008

Spokesperson of Pakistan People's Party Farhatullah Babar has said that PPP would cooperate with the Scotland Yard team in probe into Benazir's murder case.
In an interview with a private TV channel he said that the PPP would provide every kind of cooperation to the Scotland Yard investigation team but despite it the team would not be able to achieve much because Pervez Musharraf has already said that the team would not be permitted to investigate or interrogate some people merely on the basis of suspicion.
Farhat Babar said when people are suspected they must be investigated but Musharraf even before the arrival of the Scotland Yard team had made it clear that it would not be permitted to investigate them. He said Musharraf has also said that the Scotland Yard team would work under the Pakistani inquiry commission whereas the PPP believes that the commission must be led by the United Nations.
To a query about any request for cooperation from the Scotland Yard team, the PPP spokesperson said that, so far, they have not received any request from them, adding that they have also not received any thing from the government of Pakistan.
