PHCBA announces three-day strike

09 Jan, 2008

Peshawar High Court Bar Association (PHCBA) and Peshawar District Bar Association (PDBA) here on Monday announced three days province-wide strike from Friday against what they say the prolong detention of their central leadership.
The lawyers' bodies announced to hold a meeting of the National Lawyers Action Committee on January 13, which would be attended by members of various bar associations.
These decisions were taken during the general body meeting of PHCBA and PDBA held at the bar room with Advocate Abdul Lateef Afridi in the chair. The participants unanimously decided to hold a three-day boycott of the court proceedings across the frontier province in protest against the detention of deposed Chief Justice of Supreme Court and Supreme Court Bar Association president Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan, senior lawyers Ali Ahmad Kurd and former justice Tariq Mahmood.
