More than 0.1 million tons wheat would reach Karachi on Thursday, which would help in overcoming the current shortage, as provinces would get additional supplies. According to official sources, three ships with 50,000 tons, 25,000 tons and 38,000 tons wheat are due to arrive at Karachi port on Thursday.
"The supply of this wheat to mills will help lessen the shortage of flour in the domestic market", sources told Business Recorder. They said that the government has approved additional wheat quota to flour mills to overcome the shortage of flour. However, a flour miller said that the government had announced supply of 32,000 tons wheat to flour mills which was already being supplied by the government since December 15.
The shortage still persists and its intensity is increasing by each passing day for which the government has announce additional supplies. He said that the government had failed to arrest the hoarders of wheat, and rather it is blaming the flour millers for creating artificial shortage through hoarding.
