One cannot help but endorse and appreciate the decision of the government not to issue visas to the Commonwealth observers for coming to Pakistan to oversee the conduct of the general election in the country as quite timely and wise.
This is indeed a firm and strong decision taken under the prevailing circumstances by the government. Visas for the Commonwealth observers to monitor the polls cannot be justified and questioned in any manner because the organisation has already suspended Pakistan's membership sometime back.
At the same time,it is quite appreciable that the government has allowed as many as 200 foreign observers from various international bodies and countries to visit Pakistan and monitor the polls to see whether these are held as free, fair and transparent as time and again committed and assured by President Pervez Musharraf.
