LHC full bench calls former minister's educational record

The newly constituted full bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on the petition of Ghazanfar Abbas has directed the Controller Examination of Punjab University to produce the education record of Saeed Akbar Niwani a former Punjab minister and an independent candidate from PP-48, Bhakkar.
Bench comprising Justice Mian Najamuz Zaman, Justice Abdul Shakoor Paracha and Justice Hasnat Ahmad Khan also directed the Bhakkar police to produce the record of a murder case against Niwani. Bench further directed the Returning Officer to produce complete record of previous election in which Nawani had participated. Petitioner alleged that Nawani was not qualified to contest the election as he was not a graduate and also some criminal cases were lodged against him.
Bench on a petition by PML-N candidate, Dr Muhammad Afzal Khan Dhandula had directed the Returning Officer (RO) to produce education record of Rashid Akbar Nawani, a PML-Q candidate from NA-74, Bhakkar.
Petitioner alleged that Rashid Niwani did not have the BA degree and also had some criminal record. As the counsel was not available, the bench deferred the proceedings of a petition moved by Malik Khalid Mahmood.
Petitioner, who wanted to contest election on provincial assembly seat PP-285, Rahim Yar Khan on PML-Q ticket said that the RO had rejected his papers on an objection that he was defaulter of a loan, which he had received from a branch of Muslim Commercial Bank.
On petition of ex-MPA Arshad Mehmood Baggu, the full bench has summoned PML-Q candidate for PP-122, Sialkot Umar Farooq Dar for December 29. The court also summoned the record about Bachelor degree of Dar, which he had obtained from Priston University. Petitioner alleged that Dar had a fake BA degree.
