The Sindh government will allot 300 acre land during the current week for Karachi Garment City and the development work on the project would be started very soon. The project promises employment opportunity to nearly 80,000 people, Project Director Aziz Memon told a private TV channel Wednesday.
He said the acquirement of land for the project was a big problem, which now has been solved. An amount of Rs 300 million would be paid to the government of Sindh from Export Development Fund during the current week and the possession of the land would be taken.
The project is being designed by the NESPAK in which the plots would be given to big industrial units while SME garment industry will get constructed building. Memon said that in collaboration with Textile City the installation of power generating units is being considered to feed the energy needs of project. He said that an institute is also being set up in the supervision of Korean experts for the training of manpower in this regard.
