10 Jan, 2008

In a gathering of writers, poets, intellectuals and columnists of Sindh discussed political and social unrest in Pakistan, especially in Sindh, after the tragic death of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. The event was organised by Sindh Democratic Forum (SDF) in Hyderabad, paid rich tributes to Benazir Bhutto as the finest daughter of Sindh and Pakistan.
The meeting passed resolutions as under: It is resolved that the incidents of burning down every thing in sight, especially in Sindh, on the heartbreaking news of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto's murder, was a spontaneous reaction of the masses against the government of Pervez Musharraf.
All people including those present in this gathering, who are condoling the death of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto from all corners of Pakistan are unanimous in their opinion that the present regime and the extremists are two faces of the same coin. Their prime target is democracy.
This meeting criticised the policies of Pervez Musharraf, Choudhary Pervez Illahi, Altaf Hussain and Arbab Rahim who what they said are playing a dangerous game of fanning linguist and ethnic hatred in their speeches. In order to counter this evil design of the establishment to divide the progressive and democratic forces of the country, this gathering has unanimously decided to revive and strengthen social and cultural contacts with writers, intellectuals, and concerned citizens of other provinces and of Urdu speaking Sindhi.
This gathering has mandated SDF to broaden the participation and its voice by including the younger generation of writers, poets and intellectuals through consultation and networking.
